Nature lessons are everywhere! Murals
Updated: Feb 27
The last time we got gas next to this mural, my daughter learned that this fish was a Tarpon.
So what did we talk about today on a second look at it from the car? (She didn’t want to get out this time.)

We could talk about his big eyes and huge protective scales, but the mouth jumps out at us here. Tarpon have an upturned mouth close to his eyes. He is adapted to eating fish right in front of him or from above. He probably can see very well too with those eyes!

Let’s remember that the last time we went fishing, we caught a catfish. Activating prior knowledge again!

Ventral Downward mouth that feeds on or at the bottom!!
